New Zealand national team is pushing to join the 2027 CONCACAF Gold Cup, with CEO Andrew Pragnell counting on FIFA president Gianni Infantino's support.
What's at stake?
The team's recent World Cup exit still fresh, New Zealand Football is already looking ahead to the next four-year cycle. A key target is the CONCACAF Gold Cup, a biannual tournament for North and Central American nations.
Why it matters for New Zealand
The Gold Cup has a tradition of invited countries, including Qatar in 2021 and 2023 and Saudi Arabia in 2025. NZF chief executive Andrew Pragnell hopes the All Whites can be on that list for the 2027 iteration. | Date | Event | Result | | --- | --- | --- | | 2025-11-19 | Ecuador vs New Zealand | 2-0 loss |
What comes next?
Pragnell had exploratory conversations at the World Cup and also pushed the case with Infantino. The team will begin their review of the World Cup campaign this month, involving interviews with every player and most staff. The review, facilitated by a High Performance Sport New Zealand adviser, is expected to be finished in November. The All Whites will be back in action with a couple of internationals pencilled in for November 9-17, expected to be on home soil. Two to four games are planned for September 21 to October 6. Recent form has been tough, with a record of 0W-1D-4L in the last 5 games, including losses in the last 2 matches.
